Celebrating its 30th Anniversary in 2016, Ronald McDonald House Parkville is an iconic not-for-profit organisation that creates the environment of a “home away from home” for seriously ill children and their families.  This well-run haven provides accommodation in close proximity to the Royal Children’s Hospital, plus a range of services including the Ronald McDonald Learning Program and Family Rooms.

This role is unique and rare – a job with real meaning and a sense of purpose that offers the satisfaction of making a difference.

Reporting to the Executive Officer, and working in collaboration with an enthusiastic team, you will provide regular financial and statistical reporting for the Board, Management and Fundraising team. You will be responsible for managing a full suite of finance functions including preparation of business plans, budgeting, P&L and Balance Sheet reporting, BAS, accounts payable & receivable, costing & analysis. You will also act as a key liaison to IT and other service providers.


The Business Manager needs to be a strategic and innovative thinker, with change management and implementation skills, along with a strong commitment to securing successful outcomes and meeting targets. Proficiency using MYOB EXO is essential. You will need to be a team-player with the capacity to work cooperatively with others and act in a way that supports success of the overall group. NFP experience will be well regarded.

About the organisation

Baptcare Affordable Housing Ltd (BAH) is a subsidiary company of Baptcare, the welfare and aged care agency of the Baptist Union of Victoria.   BAH operates as a Not-For-Profit Housing Provider, registered by the Registrar of Housing Agencies under the Housing Act 1983.

The key objectives of BAH include a commitment to:

·         Providing and/or managing well-maintained affordable housing.

·         Facilitating tenancy management which supports vulnerable tenants and allows households to have a say in the way their housing is managed.

·         Co-operating in place management strategies that build community.

·         Partnering with Baptcare and other agencies to ensure tenants’ needs are adequately met.


BAH currently has a strategy to provide and/or manage up to 500 properties by the year 2020.

About the Board

·         Current Board size:               Currently 5 Directors.  2 vacancies

About the vacancy

·         This is a voluntary position with expenses reimbursed.

·         BAH seeks to appoint two independent non-executive Directors.

·         The role requires attending approximately 7 board meetings per year, during the evening. In addition it may be necessary to take part in monthly conference calls and/or occasional weekend workshops.

As a skills-based Board and in line with current specific requirements, candidates with skills in at least one of the following areas are encouraged to apply:

·         Experience in the Community Housing or Social/Affordable-Housing Sector

·         Marketing and/or PR Advertising

·         Finance

·         Property Development

Educational requirements

ESSENTIAL - Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field with significant industry experience

DESIRABLE - Successful completion of the Australian Institute of Company Directors Course
