Take a strategic leadership role with Very Special Kids - a dynamic, heart-warming organisation that supports families caring for children with life-threatening conditions. Recognised for its unique role in Victoria, Very Special Kids provides a range of family-centred programs for over 950 families across the state from its main location in Malvern and eight regional offices.

Reporting to a visionary and progressive CEO, you will lead a high-performing Fundraising, Events, Marketing & Communications team with over-arching responsibility for fundraising income, including partnerships and supplier relationships. You will also be responsible for delivery of all branding & communications activities, media & publicity for the organisation.

 

This pivotal role demands a true professional with extensive experience in fundraising & marketing, and the ability to generate funds through multiple donor channels – an innovator who approaches things differently from conventional ‘campaign type’ fundraising. Your ability to communicate, influence and engage high-level donors towards a rewarding philanthropic path will be highly valued.

About the organisation

Baptcare Affordable Housing Ltd (BAH) is a subsidiary company of Baptcare, the welfare and aged care agency of the Baptist Union of Victoria.   BAH operates as a Not-For-Profit Housing Provider, registered by the Registrar of Housing Agencies under the Housing Act 1983.

The key objectives of BAH include a commitment to:

·         Providing and/or managing well-maintained affordable housing.

·         Facilitating tenancy management which supports vulnerable tenants and allows households to have a say in the way their housing is managed.

·         Co-operating in place management strategies that build community.

·         Partnering with Baptcare and other agencies to ensure tenants’ needs are adequately met.

 

BAH currently has a strategy to provide and/or manage up to 500 properties by the year 2020.

About the Board

·         Current Board size:               Currently 5 Directors.  2 vacancies

·         Board Meeting location:     Camberwell

About the vacancy

·         This is a voluntary position with expenses reimbursed.

·         BAH seeks to appoint two independent non-executive Directors.

·         The role requires attending approximately 7 board meetings per year, during the evening. In addition it may be necessary to take part in monthly conference calls and/or occasional weekend workshops.

As a skills-based Board and in line with current specific requirements, candidates with skills in at least one of the following areas are encouraged to apply:

·         Experience in the Community Housing or Social/Affordable-Housing Sector

·         Marketing and/or PR Advertising

·         Finance

·         Property Development

Educational requirements

ESSENTIAL - Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field with significant industry experience

DESIRABLE - Successful completion of the Australian Institute of Company Directors Course

Other attributes 

Active involvement in a local church community and an understanding of Baptist values and faith.
